Batman

I just bought Tim Burton's Batman on BluRay and must admit, it's still my favorite Batman movie. It just had so much more character and that 'comic book' feel to it than any of the more recent movies. I know everybody loves Nolan/Bale's Batman, but I'll take Michael Keaton in a rubber suit anyday.

It's a digital world

It's amazing how far technology has come when it comes to art. In the past, it would be glaringly obvious when a drawing or painting was done on on the computer. Programs now do a really good job of replicating the look and feel of traditional mediums. Will a computer replace pencil and paper? Probably not (at least I hope not). But technology will make it easier for artist to comfortably switch to digital medium. BTW, I used a program called Art Rage for these sketches.

A few months ago, I had the pleasure of sharing an office at work with 2 amazing artists from Lucas Animation in Singapore. They came over to train and work with the art department at ILM for 6 weeks. They were super talented and a lot of fun to work with. It was sad when they had to go back, but now I've got some new friends and a reason to visit Singapore someday. These are quick goodbye cards I did for them that the ILM art department signed. Here's an old digital scribble I did a while back. At one point, I tried taking it further, cleaning it up and rendering it nicely. Unfortunately, the tighter version lost all of it's character, so I trashed it and stuck with the loose sketch.

Stupid Sprinklers

Did this quick painting at lunch today. Would've liked to spend a bit more time on it, but got interrupted by some sprinklers turning on a few feet behind me. Luckily, I was just out of their range. They turned off after about a minute, but a few minutes later some other sprinklers popped on right in front of me. I decided not to press my luck amd packed up my gear and headed back to work.

Thanks to awesome Christmas gifts from a friend, the art department at work has been engaged in Nerf Battles several times a day. It's a lot of fun as well as a good excuse to get off our asses and away from the computer for a few minutes.
